'The definition of a miracle': Prayers, science help save baby girl at death's door

Science and faith have always been viewed as two opposing forces that are difficult to harmonise. In Scotland, however, prayers and the wonders of modern medicine converged to save a precious young life.

Through God's grace, a baby girl named Skye Edwards was able to survive after being on the verge of death upon being born, and has miraculously continued to live until now, 14 months after her own parents thought she could no longer make it.

Baby Skye was born at the Raigmore Hospital via caesarian section on April 20, 2015, or four days before the due date of her mother, Gemma.

However, the baby was born with a possibly fatal condition where her body was covered in rashes and bruises due to low platelet levels. Skye's condition only worsened as she lived her first day her on Earth.

"If she'd been in me three hours longer, she would have died... At one point we were told she was incapable of being transferred to another hospital," Mrs. Edwards told CBN News.

The baby's situation was so bad that her parents already accepted that she could no longer make it, but God's hands were at work during that challenging time.

"She was on death's door before the hospital chaplain prayed for her. After that, Skye was stable enough to be transferred," Mrs. Edwards recalled.

After what happened, Skye was flown to the Yorkhill Children's Hospital some 179 miles away. There, doctors reportedly "took over" the child's body by placing her in a drug-induced coma, then placed in a ventilator for almost a week.

"I believe medical science ultimately saved her because without that technology she would never have made it," the mother said.

Mrs. Edwards further said that what happened to her baby, who is still with her and her husband now, is nothing short of miraculous.

"Miracles mean different things to different people. But to me, Skye was on the verge of death. For her to have survived what she's been through, is the definition of a miracle," she said.
