'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date, news: 'Skyrim' follow-up not an 'active project' right now

Since it came out back in 2011, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" has been one of the most popular open world role-playing games (RPGs) in the world. Its only rivals to the RPG throne may as well be "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt," "Dragon Age: Inquisition," and "Fallout 4." With that in mind, it's easy to understand why gamers are dying to find out if Bethesda is working on "The Elder Scrolls VI."

In an interview with Glixel, Bethesda's executive producer Todd Howard spoke briefly about the follow-up to "Skyrim."

"It's not what you would call a big, active project right now. There are some other ones that we have going. We know it's important to our fans, and we need to be careful about setting expectations," he said. "It's certainly a game that we'll be making one day. I could sit here and explain to you exactly what we want it to be."

Well, it sounds like "The Elder Scrolls VI" won't be coming out anytime soon. Bethesda's vice president of public relations and marketing Pete Hines may be busy talking about "Dishonored 2" right now, but he has been saying the same thing for months now.

Game Rant's Anthony Taormina pointed out that the long gap between "The Elder Scrolls" titles isn't necessarily a bad thing. He said this will give the studio time to improve its graphics engine. He also noted that "Fallout 4's" graphics failed to impress, and a lot of gamers out there will agree with this assessment. There may be improvements, but that game's graphics looks almost identical to "Fallout 3's."

"Hopefully, 'The Elder Scrolls 6' can succeed where 'Fallout' didn't, and truly wow the fanbase with impressive visuals and gameplay," Taormina stated.

Right now, fans may as well check out the remastered version of "Skyrim" that came out last month. Bethesda is certainly going to develop "The Elder Scrolls VI." The question is: when?
