Fans of "The Elder Scrolls" series have been actively demanding Bethesda Game Studios to develop a new sequel through online forums. Years after the fifth installment for "Skyrim" was released, there is still no official word that "The Elder Scrolls 6" is actually in the works. Nevertheless, there are rumors that the follow-up title will be a bit different than the previous ones, with a possibility that "TE6" will serve as a prequel. In addition, a new lead writer is taking the series to a different direction.

According to the recent speculations, there might be a little shake-up in the Bethesda Game Studios' department. It was rumored that the "Fallout" series and "Skyrim" head writer Emil Pagliarulo might have already stepped down from his post. A YouTuber known as MrMattyPlays first spotted Pagliarulo changing his Twitter bio, which could be a hint that he will serve a different function in his future project.

Pagliarulo's talent led Bethesda into giving him an important role in the development of the "Fallout" titles and some "The Elder Scrolls" sequels. However, players have become more vocal in criticizing his works, especially in the "Fallout" series where the same storyline was used repeatedly. Some fans also wanted to see more interesting concepts in the future "Fallout" and "The Elder Scrolls" projects, which is something that Pagliarulo has failed to do in the previous installments.

As for "The Elder Scrolls 6," it is possible that Pagliarulo will no longer be the lead writer for this project. Someone might take over his seat to pen a new storyline for the sequel, which could also mean that there will be a different approach in tackling the "TES" folklore. Nevertheless, fans are hopeful that any changes in the writer's department will be for the better.

Speaking of changes, Gaming Bolt raised the possibility that Bethesda will attempt to tweak the succession of "The Elder Scrolls" titles by making the "Skyrim" follow-up as a prequel. It would be a great opportunity for a "TES" prequel to re-tell the long history of the series, and possibly unravel the stories that were never covered by previous installments. Players would also want to know the origins of the existing factions in the game, and "The Elder Scrolls 6" could be a nice start to explain their mythos.

Bethesda has yet to comment on the rumored development of "The Elder Scrolls 6," but reports suggested that the new sequel or prequel will be released in 2019.
