'The Last Jedi' news: Viewers review-bomb the movie on Rotten Tomatoes

Review bombing is not only limited to gaming now, as thousands of viewers have taken to Rotten Tomatoes to give low scores to the most popular movie of the Holiday season.

"Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" is under flak from the audience. While its user score on the review aggregator website remains intact at 93 percent positive, the audience score is only a poor 55 percent positive. This means nearly half of all the viewers who bothered to give a review rating gave it a bad score either because they did not like it or because they are protesting about something.

Apparently, not all of the audience reviews are even real or authentic; some are alleged to be bots and even trolls who simply did not like Disney's treatment of the "Star Wars" franchise. A Facebook group named "Down With Disney's Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys," have even admitted that it employed bots and fake accounts just to bring down the audience score of "The Last Jedi."

It also seems that the said Facebook group consists of die-hard fans of "Justice League" and the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) franchise, which is in direct competition with Disney since the studio also owns Marvel, DC's main rival. As such, the page then defined itself as anti-Disney and anti-Marvel, and pro-DCEU.

Another group which may have been responsible for the review bombing for "The Last Jedi" are the users of the website 4chan. Speculations have arisen that the subgroup of 4chan called /pol/ could have generated as much as 10,000 users, both fake and real, in order to give the "Star Wars" movie a poor rating in the audience aspect. /pol/ is considered by a lot of 4chan users as a politically-incorrect forum thread where dangerously radical usually people gather.

Meanwhile, users who frequent the /pol/ thread from 4chan wished they did have a part in it, but are claiming otherwise and even downplaying the review bombing allegations. Regardless of what may be the cause of the movie's continuously plummeting score, the possibility that it could have just been a real sentiment of the audience for "The Last Jedi" might also be viable as well. So far, no one has come forth and showed evidence that they actually did the review bombing.
