Naughty Dog has been updating fans with new posters and teaser videos for the much-awaited game sequel "The Last of Us 2." However, the game studio did not specify a release date for the upcoming survival horror video game. While most major details about the game are kept under wraps, "TLOU" score composer may have spilled crucial information.

According to Segment Next, 2013's "The Last of Us" song composer Gustavo Santaolalla revealed a few tidbits about "The Last of Us 2" at an Argentinian radio show. Santaolalla, who was once again hired by Naughty Dog to work on new scores for the sequel, said in the interview that "The Last of Us 2" might be ready for release in 2019.

Furthermore, Santaolalla stated that huge game titles such as "The Last of Us 2" usually finish the production phase within at least two years. He said that he has only been involved in the project for a year, and based on his own estimates, it will take another full year before the production wraps up.

Gaming Bolt reported that an original score composer for a video game does not actually dictate the release date. At the end of the day, Naughty Dog will be the one to make the decision regarding the game's launch. However, Santaolalla has been a part of the ongoing production phase of "The Last of Us 2" for quite some time, which means that he has enough knowledge about the progress of the project so far. He is free to give his own prediction regarding the release date of the game, based on what he is seeing inside the studio.

Santaolalla's 2019 release date estimate for "The Last of Us 2" might be fair, given that Naughty Dog has only focused on the game's development recently. The game studio was not able to start right away with "TLOU2" production as soon as they announced the game in 2016 due to "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" that was released earlier this year.

With reports that "The Last of Us 2" will arrive in 2019, there are now speculations that the game will be released alongside Sony's next generation console, the PlayStation 5. As per the latest rumors, "The Last of Us 2" is a very popular game title and it might be the best vehicle for the big PS5 launch. The current updated console version, PS4 Pro, still does not feature the 4K graphics at 60fps, and the PS5 could the one bring the best experience out of "TLOU2."
