A smartphone version of "The Legend of Zelda" is rumored to be in development on Nintendo.

According to reports, the rumored mobile version of the popular high-fantasy action-adventure game is planned for release after the mobile edition of "Animal Crossing" later in 2017. This means the "Zelda" game for smartphone could be released sometime in 2018.

While the rumors have yet to be confirmed, Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima reportedly said during the company's earnings call that they are planning to release at least three new mobile games before March 2018. But until today, only the "Animal Crossing" mobile game has been made official.

Nintendo has previously released other games for smartphones and tablets in the past. The first one was a Mii-themed social app called Miitomo back in March 2016. Then they came up with "Super Mario Run" auto-runner game released in December of the same year. In February 2017, the company released the free-to-play tactical role-playing game "Fire Emblem Heroes," which is also a mobile game.

Details about "The Legend of Zelda" mobile game are still unannounced. But other reports speculate that the game developer might come up with a more or less formal spin-off to the action-adventure video game franchise.

Meanwhile, other reports speculate that the rumored "The Legend of Zelda" mobile game would probably sell for $3 up to $5, just like most mobile games in the market.

On the other hand, sources state there will be another mobile game app to have a "Pokémon" trading card theme. This is currently a free-to-play game available on PCs, Android gadgets, and iPads. This means the speculated new version could finally bring the game on iPhones. However, there are no reports yet that could confirm the rumors about the game.

More details about the rumored "The Legend of Zelda" video game are expected to be revealed soon.
