Now that "The Shannara Chronicles" has just concluded, fans and viewers want to know whether or not the action-fantasy series will be back for a third installment.
Unfortunately, there is still no official word yet if the fantasy show will return for season 3. However, entertainment analysts can gauge whether or not the show will come back from the ratings it posts throughout the season. Based on the second season ratings, the show started with 314,000 viewers but ended up with 239,000 tuning in to the last episode. Compared to season 1, the ratings experienced a huge 72 percent drop.
The show began with a 0.10 rating for the 18-49 demographic but as the season progressed, it ended up losing viewers which resulted in a 0.07 percentage in the last episode. When compared to the first season, the series suffered a 77 percent drop in that prime demographic. Based on these percentages, it seems that things are not looking good for the show.
Moreover, the series started to show two episodes back-to-back weekly which began with episode 5 and 6. This signaled that executives may have realized that the show was losing money on its timeslot and decided to burn off the remaining episodes in quick succession. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the executives at Spike will give "The Shannara Chronicles" another chance next year.
In the recent season 2 finale, Wil (Austin Butler) managed to defeat the Warlock Lord by stabbing him in the chest with the Sword of Shannara. However, it was not without loss as the druid Allanon (Manu Bennett) died at the warlock's hands when he tried to save Wil from the enemy's vicious attack. Nevertheless, good triumphed over evil and the Four Lands was safe once again.
There is no word yet for "The Shannara Chronicles" season 3. Stay tuned for more updates as the situation unfolds.
