The Spice Girls was a global phenomenon during the 90's as the all-girl group made up of Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm, Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell, and Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham took the world by storm with a string of number one hits and a movie. Though the band officially split in 2001, a new report claims that the ladies are getting back together for a 20th anniversary tour—but Beckham will allegedly be absent for the much-awaited reunion.
According to The Sun, Brown, Bunton, Chisholm and Halliwell made the decision to go on an international tour during a secret meeting in London.
A source told The Sun that there is a huge demand for the ladies to get back together, "especially with the nostalgia around the two-decade anniversary of their first release next summer." The insider adds that the ladies are expected to make a huge amount for the reunion tour and that Beckham is welcome to join them. However, the mother of four reportedly declined to be involved as she is busy looking after her fashion brand and taking care of her family.
The Spice Girls was formed in 1994 after all five ladies answered an advertisement in The Stage. After two years, their debut single, "Wannabe," was released and the song became a number one hit in 31 countries. In 1997, they starred as themselves in the movie "Spice World." The following year, Halliwell quit the band, but the remaining girls continued as a four-person band.
The group reunited at the London 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony, where they performed their hits while standing on five black cabs.
In response to the reunion rumors, some members of the girl group took to social media to make fun of the recent reports.
On Friday, Aug. 7, Chisholm took to Twitter and wrote, "Woke up this morning wondering whether I need to start practicing my backflips???!!!"
In response to Chisolm's tweet, Bunton wrote, "Do I need to put my pigtails in?!?!?"
On Thursday, Beckham took to the micro blogging site to post a picture of the official Spice Girls photo album and wrote, "#TBT love my Spice Girls x vb"
Speaking on her radio show on Heart FM on Friday morning, Bunton downplayed the reports and said that "nothing's happening at the moment."
"If anything happens and it's concrete, and we decide on something, I will let you know," she added.
