The damage between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) relationship will finally be resolved in the series' eighth and final season. A new big bad has invaded the minds of Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey), and will soon bring chaos to Mystic Falls.

Stefan and Damon will finally get closure for the issues they have with each other in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, according to executive producer Julie Plec in an interview with TV Guide.

Since the series is ending, Plec thinks that it is also about time the two brothers get rid of the hate in their love-hate relationship.

"Stefan and Damon have had a lot of back-and-forths over the seasons – where they stand with each other, how deep their love and commitment for each other is – and this season we'll take that, explore it to its fullest and resolve it," explained Plec.

But before any resolution happens between the Salvatore brothers, they will have to deal with the new villain who has invaded the minds of Damon and Enzo.

In an interview with E! Online, Somerhalder explains what the mysterious new villain has done to his character, Damon. "He's super possessed by an enemy that we essentially don't know what it is.

"Damon's a bit of a loose cannon. His girl is in a box, he's been through hell and high water, and so him being susceptible to this sort of new energy just sort of feeds into the times," adds Somerhalder. It appears that Damon will be returning to his old destructive self, but under the influence of an evil entity that feeds on Damon's dark side.

Meanwhile, Caroline (Candice King) will try to find Damon and Enzo, along with Stefan and Bonnie (Kat Graham) before the two possessed boys unleash destruction in Mystic Falls. "They know that the boys are causing mayhem wherever they go and they're trying to get to the bottom of why they've fallen into such a deep, dark, thoughtless spell," King explains.

The gang of Mystic Falls will soon find out what they're dealing with in the premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 on Friday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
