Fans of Dalena are hoping to see Nina Dobrev's return to Mystic Falls in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.

Speculations are rife about the possibility of fans seeing Dobrev again on the show after Damon (Ian Somerhalder) heard her character Elena's voice when he was possessed by the evil creature living inside the vault.

But Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) both warned him that the vault was just playing tricks on him since it is impossible for Elena to communicate with him after she was cursed by Kai (Chris Wood) to stay asleep until Bonnie dies.

According to rumors, Elena will be back from her deep sleep to help save Damon from the vault's monster. Since Bonnie lost all her powers in season 7, fans are speculating that Bonnie will sacrifice her own life to bring Elena back to life just to save Damon in the next season.

Speaking with TVLine toward the end of the previous season, executive producer Julie Plec said that it was always a delight to have Dobrev back on the set of "The Vampire Diaries" even if she already decided to depart from the show after season 6. According to Plec, Dobrev was given the option of recording the scenes using ADR, or doing it live with the other cast members.

"She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit."

But it seems like it will not be the last time to see the actress back on the show. According to the executive producer, the actress could possibly join the series again before the series airs its last episode even if the actress already decided to move on.

"Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer than we expect it to, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to," the executive producer said. "But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she's doing a great job of achieving that. So I'm sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end."

Meanwhile, The CW finally announced the release date of the premiere episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. According to the network, the vampires of Mystic Falls will be seen once again on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
