"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is expected to see the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert and the reunion of her character and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), but it appears that Somerhalder is not too thrilled about the idea.

Speaking to TV Line, the actor said that Elena should not end up with his character or anyone from their group for that matter, considering all the hardships she went through because of them.

"This poor young girl from this tiny town ... she lost everyone she's ever loved, she burned her house down, she's now in a box," Somerhalder said.

"These guys have ruined her life, yet everybody wants her to end up with one of them," he went on to say, suggesting that "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will not end well for "Delena."

Back in the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), Somerhalder said that the ending of the series should focus on the "nucleus" of where the characters now are.

Executive producer Julie Plec quickly corrected him and said that she wants to bring back characters, more importantly, the character of Dobrev, who promised to return to the show for its ending.

Elena's return in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is yet to be confirmed, although, back in August, The CW president Mark Pedowitz said that they were in talks with Dobrev about the possibility.

The upcoming season, which will also mark the end of the vampire drama, will begin with Damon and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) on a killing spree after being corrupted by the armory vault.

Bonnie (Kat Graham), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Caroline (Candice Accola) will work hand in hand to bring them back to normal. Stefan, in particular, will do everything to bring his brother back.

Plec revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the character will take into account the possibility of Damon and Elena reuniting, which will lead him to make sure Damon comes to his senses.

"He's very focused on trying to rescue his brother from this mess, understanding that the fallout of whatever it is that Damon has to do could impact his ability to be reunited with Elena one day," the EP said.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 premieres on Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

It might just be me, but amongst all the myriad and somewhat valid objections raised, including by Christians, to "Assisted Dying" (read "Doctors Killing Patients" or "Doctors Helping Patients to Kill Themselves"), I haven't really seen the most important, indeed the all-decisive, one.
