The upcoming Netflix fantasy series "The Witcher" has hit a significant milestone: writer and showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has finished the script for the pilot episode and has also released a list of characters to be featured on the show.

Netflix announced in May of last year that it was developing a new original series based on The Witcher Saga, a series of fantasy novels and short stories written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. There is also already a series of video game adaptations bearing the same name.

The book series was originally planned to be adapted into a film, which was supposed to come out in 2017. However, it looks as though this project has been shelved to make room for the Netflix series instead.

"The Witcher" follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a "witcher" tasked with hunting and battling monsters that plague a land inhabited by humans, elves, dwarves, and other magical beings.

In December 2017, it was announced that Hissrich will adapt the book series into a television series for Netflix. Hissrich wrote and co-produced the Netflix shows "The Defenders" and "Daredevil" as well as the Starz show "Power." She will also serve as co-executive producer on "The Witcher" and will be the production's showrunner as well.

On Feb. 24, Hissrich tweeted a photo of the first page of the script for the show's pilot episode. According to Hissrich, the script was already "out for notes." She has also tweeted about the process of writing the pilot episode's script, which, apparently, went through a lot of versions.

Other than the script for the pilot episode, Hissrich also created a Twitter thread about some of the characters that viewers can expect to see once the show debuts. Viewers will, of course, see the series protagonist, Geralt of Rivia, along with major characters such as Yennefer, Ciri, and Triss Merigold. Other characters that will be featured in the show include Geralt's horse Roach, Jaskier, Cahir, Regis, Vilgefortz, Emhyr, Milva, Leo Bonhart, and Borch Three Jackdaws.

See here for a more in-depth look into the characters mentioned by Hissrich.

These, however, are the only details about the show available right now. There is still no word on a possible release date, and there is also no word on casting as of yet.
