The 11th installment to the long-running TV series "The X-Files" has started production last August. The new season will have 10 episodes to run, with eight standalones that will have no connection to the cliffhanger finale of season 10.

Fox president David Madden shared with Digital Spy that monster-of-the-week stories will be a recurring theme for the new season, which have no connection to the alien mythology of the show. However, this does not mean that questions left hanging in the last season will continue to hang for a possible 12th season.

"We start the season right up from where the season finale left off with that big helicopter...You'll be launched into a very urgent adventure that has a lot to do with William (Mulder and Scully's child)," explained Madden, further adding that the show still intends to do mythology stories and some other stories that will connect to previous ones.

Producer Glen Morgan has written two episodes for the upcoming season of the paranormal mystery solver show. His brother Darin, who wrote season 10's "Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-monster" episode, will also be penning one episode for the new season. "X-Files" creator Chris Carter will be spearheading the writing team. Completing their quartet is also a returning writer for the show, James Wong, who will be writing two episodes.

The last season only offered six episodes while this season will put up with 10. Season 11 will be introducing the newest members of their writing pool, Gabe Rotter (season 9, writer assistant), Benjamin Van Allen (season 10, writer assistant), and Brad Follmer (season 8 and 9, personal assistant to Carter).

Carol Banker, a show veteran, and Holly Dale ("Quantico") will be resuming their directorial duties for the upcoming season.

Although Madden has yet to release an exact date, "The X-Files" season 11 is scheduled to return in early 2018.
