Christian football player Tim Tebow is truly passionate about helping out kids in need. As proof of this, the Tim Tebow Foundation has just finished working on Timmy's Playroom, the newest play place at the Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
Timmy's Playroom was created to provide kids staying at the hospital with much-needed enjoyment. It is fully decked with toys and books. Erik Dellenback, executive director and president of the Tim Tebow Foundation, said they designed the playroom in such a way that it would ease the stress felt by children while they undergo treatment.
In honour of Tebow, the Timmy's Playroom at the Covenant Children's Hospital has a football theme, according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. They placed football field covers on the floor while the wall is covered with wallpaper showing fans in a stadium. They even have football-shaped chairs, lockers, and a TV that resembles a Jumbotron scoreboard.
As a special touch, they have a glass case with a signed Tebow jersey inside.
Dellenback said the room is the seventh of its kind. They have already built four Timmy's Playroom. Aside from the playroom at the Covenant Children's Hospital, there is another playroom in Florida, another one in Tennessee, and still another one in the Philippines, where Tebow was born.
"We have 20 different hospitals on a waiting list," he added.
All of the seven Timmy's Playrooms are unique, but they have some similar elements, such as the lockers and Bible verses placed all over the room. Dellenback said the Bible verses and uplifting quotes have been placed in the rooms upon the request of Tebow. They said the Bible verses and quotes were meant to inspire children to never give up and trust God in everything they do.
Tebow has made it a point to visit each of the Timmy's Playrooms his foundation has built. He is expected to visit Covenant Children's Hospital soon.
"I have no question that he'll be here at some point, but it'll be at a time when there's not a lot of adults and he can just spend time with the kids," said Dellenback.
