Despite its poor performance in the ratings game during its second season run and disappointing the viewers with how it turned out, there is no denying that the next installment of "Tokyo Ghoul" is still one of the most anticipated anime series. However, as there is no word on when "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will arrive, some cannot help but speculate that the anime series may be good as dead.

It is a known fact that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 2 fell in the bad graces of its fans. Apart from deviating from the events in its manga counterpart, the anime series was also criticized for the poor execution of its story and character development. In fact, because of the disappointment of the fans, many even supported the petition asking that the series be rebooted by another studio, Madhouse Entertainment.

Despite all these, though, it cannot be denied that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 is still one of the most highly anticipated anime series. However, after it was initially reported that the series will finally arrive this year, and eventually corrected that such will not be the case, there has still been no official word as to when it will really arrive. Because of this, some fans are now suspecting that the anime may have already been cancelled.

According to some reports, though, Studio Pierrot, creator of "Tokyo Ghoul," may be just taking its time to create the latest installment of the anime series. After all, with the criticisms it received for how "Tokyo Ghoul" season 2 turned out, it is suspected that Studio Pierrot may have already learned its lessons and wants to make sure that it does not make the same mistakes again. Because of this, it is said that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 cannot be expected to arrive earlier than 2018.

While the fate of "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 remains up in the air, fans can, at least, look forward to the release of its live-action movie adaptation, which is slated to arrive in Japan theaters this July 29.
