United Bible Societies celebrate Past and Future at World Assembly

Recently the United Bible Societies (UBS) World Assembly took place, and the event saw delegates from numerous cultures and languages gather together with the common passion to see the world enriched by the Bible.

The Bible Society movement, this year celebrated its 200th year of its mission and ministry. The celebrations took place in Wales, the country through which one small girl’s determination to read the Bible in her own language gave birth to the whole movement. This story has inspired thousands on people, and has shown clearly that if just one person stands up tall to spread the Word of God, then such great advances can be made through them.

The World Assembly took place over a week, and saw debate, reflection, decision-making, worship and celebrations all taking their place during the gathering. The week saw delegates both acknowledge the past achievements of the Bible Society movement, and also look forward to the future challenges that await them. Their vision was clear that they want to ensure effective and meaningful distribution of the Holy Scriptures, and to help in any way possible, people interact with the Word of God in the ever-evolving world.

At the end of the Assembly delegates returned to their own countries, having been renewed in their commissions, and with a fresh commitment to working together, not only to provide Bibles to people, but also to change people’s views of the Bible and to work with the Church so that people may live their lives by the Bible message. But above all to make the Bible known, loved and respected everywhere, by all people.
