'The Vampire Diaries' season 6 spoilers: Elena contemplates her life

How to let go of Elena Gilbert? Facebook

When news came out that actress Nina Dobrev would leave "The Vampire Diaries" after the season 6 finale, a lot of speculations started to surface about how the show will present the end of her character, Elena Gilbert. Based on the official episode synopsis for "I Could Never Love Like That," Elena would want to reassess her life after finding out that one of her friends does not have to go through the same ordeal that complicated creatures like her have to face.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

"With their humanity turned off, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola) begin wreaking havoc at Whitmore, leaving Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to come up with a risky plan involving Lily (Annie Wersching). After rushing to help Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) treat victims of Stefan and Caroline's latest killing spree, Elena discovers Jo is pregnant, prompting her to reevaluate her own life as a vampire."

Could this mean that Elena will choose to leave her life as a vampire and exchange it for a less complex life as an ordinary person and abandon Mystic Falls entirely?

Meanwhile, Wetpaint also listed down some other theories on how the "TVD" creative staff will write off Elena from the series. One of the main speculations mentioned is killing Dobrev's character in the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 6. This is possible, but Elena is one of the three main characters of the entire show. It would be extremely painful for fans to deal with her death if this would happen. Also, fans are still hopeful that Dobrev will choose to come back once The CW stages the final episode of the series, which means that they are still wishing not to kill her character off.

But according to series creator Julie Plec, the final episode of the season will be full of tears.

In one of her Twitter posts last month, the series creator said: "This weekend @carolinedries and I wrote the final scenes of #tvd season 6. I can guarantee you have no idea what's coming."

Is that a clear sign that fans will have the biggest heartbreak by the end of this season?
