Vancouver Whitecaps FC will try to capture the top spot in the Western Conference and Supporters' Shield standings when it hosts the Colorado Rapids this Wednesday at the BC Place Stadium.

The Caps are looking to bounce back following a shutout loss in their last Major League Soccer (MLS) match against the Houston Dynamo.

Vancouver allowed two goals last Sunday as Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark and defender Raúl Rodríguez netted a goal each to seal the victory 2–0.

The defeat kept the Caps on the second spot in West with 45 points (14–10–3), one point ahead of the third placer FC Dallas and just a point behind conference and league leaders LA Galaxy.

A victory over Colorado would give the Caps 48 points and catapult them to the no. 1 spot on both the standings while a draw would tie them with the Galaxy for the lead.

Meanwhile, the Rapids are the second to the last club in the Western Conference and are looking to keep their playoff hopes alive against Vancouver.

The club is on the right path though, as they have won in their past three league matches beating the Chicago Fire (1–0), Houston Dynamo (2–1) and Sporting Kansas City (2–1).

Colorado's win last Saturday against Sporting KC was huge as it gave the club 33 points, helping it overtake Real Salt Lake that has 32 points.

The Rapids are currently seven points behind the final playoff spot in the West which is currently held by the Portland Timbers who have 40 points tied with Sporting KC.

A win will be huge for the Rapids as it will give them 36 points, which will move them past Houston in the standings and inch them closer to the final playoff spot.

The match between Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Colorado Rapids will be played on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. EST. To watch via live stream, click here.
