'Vikings' season 3 spoilers, premiere date: Athelstan to die? Lothbrok on The Great Raid in Paris?

"Vikings" was renewed for a third season back in March and now, it is under production. Rumor has it that the release date for Season 3 will be Summer 2015. But since it's still going to be a long wait, there are plenty of Season 3 spoilers to enjoy right now.

George Blagden, who plays Athelstan, has accepted a new role in a miniseries. This sparked speculations that Athelstan might die in Season 3. However, Blagden didn't drop a clue as to where his character is headed this season.

Blagden told Spoiler TV, "Athelstan is one of those characters who has an effect on everyone else. For Rollo, it was anger. For Floki, it was maybe jealousy. And for Ragnar, it was curiosity. The fact that we see Ragnar even considering to engage with the worship of a foreign god at the end of Season 2 is really powerful, and ultimately that was Athelstan's influence. I can't wait to see where Michael takes Ragnar with this this season."

As for Alexander Ludwig's character Bjorn, he shared what his character will be like in Season 3. "It's definitely been a coming-of-age story. Historically, this character goes on to do some pretty incredible things, so I think we're setting up him coming into his own and becoming a man," he told Zap2It.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, Ludwig also told TV Fanatic how Bjorn will become a man. "He was a boy in the second season and I really tried to play that...and in season three he's a man. You see him learning and really taking after his father," he explained.

As for Lothbrok, series creator Michael Hirst revealed earlier this year that the character will have his biggest adventure in Season 3—The Great Raid in Paris. "Yeah, we're gonna attack Paris. Paris was the most extraordinary city. It was still a Roman city, and it was like nothing else on earth. We're just building that, at the moment, on the backlot. It will also be CGI. Ragnar attacked Paris with one hundred ships," Hirst told Collider.

It looks like Season 3 will be pretty awesome when "Vikings" returns. Ludwig said at Comic-Con, "It's only going to get grittier, and I think that's why fans are absolutely in love with it right now."

And Katheryn Winnick, who plays Lagertha, seconded the motion. "Season 3 is even more epic than Season 2. If you thought you loved Season 2, Season 3 just takes it to a whole new level," she said.

"Vikings" Season 3 is still several months away. For now, enjoy the Season 3 trailer released at Comic-Con.
