Warrington Council promotes recycling instead of Christmas

This year, Warrington Council's Christmas lights, rather than bearing the usual Christmas message, reads "Recycle for Warrington". In response, the Church of England has written a spoof hymn lamenting the "hijacking" of Christmas.

The hymn, sets new words to the old favourite God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and gives the message that Warrington Council has replaced Christmas with a recycling drive.

The Diocese of Manchester said that the decision to link Christmas with the Council's recycling campaign was an "insult to the faith community of Warrington and the spirit of the season"
