The Washington Redskins will miss the services of left guard Shawn Lauvao for the rest of the 2015 National Football League (NFL) regular season due to an ankle injury.

Lauvao suffered a lateral sprain on his left ankle during their Week 3 loss against the New York Giants last Thursday and was placed on the injured reserve, The Washington Times reported.

The report added how Lauvao sustained the injury in the first quarter as he tried to block Giants defensive end Kerry Wynn.

A third-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2010 NFL Draft, Lauvao is playing his second season with the Redskins and is thriving this 2015 after struggling last season.

The 25-year-old left guard who was signed by Washington to a four-year deal, has been a key player for the team's running game.

Lauvao's loss is a major blow to the Redskins' offense which has Josh LeRibeus, Spencer Long and Arie Kouandjio as possible replacements for the former Arizona State Sun Devil.

LeRibeus is the main backup at left guard for Washington while Long ,according to The Washington Times, was originally named the starter at right guard during training camp.

Meanwhile, Kouandjio was the Redskins' fourth-round pick (112th overall) in this year's draft.

Along with Lauvao, cornerback Justin Rogers was also placed on injured reserve due to plantar fasciitis.

Rogers played in their season opener against the Miami Dolphins but the injury hindered him for participating in their next two against the St. Louis Rams and the Giants.

According to ESPN, the addition of Lauvao and Rogers makes it 10 players for the Redskins on injured reserve.

The injuries are piling up for the Redskins who will try to get their second win in the 2015 season on Oct. 4 when they host the Philadelphia Eagles at the FedExField for Week 4 action.

Like Washington, the Eagles are also at 1–2 after losses to the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys and a win in their Week 3 game against the New York Jets.
