"Wayward Pines" viewers got the surprise of their life watching the FOX series from start to end, and based on how the season 1 finale ended, a lot of them are anticipating for the release of the second season.

So far, the production and network have kept mum about the details of season 2. All that's confirmed for now is that with Matt Dillon's Ethan Burke out of the picture, a new character will find himself in the strange town, filled with residents who are determined to preserve the human race.

Season 1 ended in the most shocking way as the main protagonist was killed. Some are still hoping that Dillon's character survived the ordeal; after all there was no dead body. But a lot of fans believe that it's impossible for him to survive the explosion. But as what one user on Facebook said, "In TV it can happen."

The finale also showed Ethan's teenage son, Ben (Charlie Tahan), waking up from a coma and discovering that the eerie town is still there but is now led by youngsters known as the First Generation.

No one knows how the show will continue, but readers of the Blake Crouch trilogy that the series was based on should have a pretty good idea how the story will run. So far, what Fox Entertainment President David Madden promised is that season 2 will be more suspenseful.

"Season Two is going to take the suspense, the vision of the future and the haunting character drama to whole new levels, and we can't wait for our fans to continue that ride next year," Madden explained in his statement.

There are several questions from season 1, but fans may have to wait a little bit longer to get some answers. The M. Night Shyamalan series is scheduled to return in summer this year.
