When God's in charge, things work a whole lot better

Put God in charge of your work, then what you've planned will take place.

Proverbs 16:3

More often than we ought to be, we like to be in charge and even demand that we be in charge. Whether that's in the workplace, at home or even in our personal lives, we want to have the last say and the final authority thinking that we can make our lives a whole lot better that way.

But the Bible teaches us that it is only when Jesus Christ is in charge of every area in our life that things will go well for us.

Many if not all of us will struggle in the area of Jesus' lordship. I admit there are times that I take the remote control back from Jesus' hands and decide to steer things on my own only to watch things crash and burn. It's a big mistake to ever think that we can run our lives better than God can.

Why? There are many reasons, but here are just a few:

First off, God is the author of our lives. He formed us and made us for His purpose and until we submit ourselves to the authority of God, we will never be truly fulfilling the reason why we were created.

Secondly, God owns everything. That money that you want to earn more, or that job that you want so badly, or that marriage you're hoping will be restored? That belongs to God. He has the access to give you that and He wants to give it to you.

James 4:7a tells us, "Submit yourselves therefore to God." James says this not because we don't have a choice. You have a choice that is given by God Himself whether to follow Him or not. The Bible says this because truth be told, and you know it, there's no better option that putting things in the hands of God.

David knew this best. As a king and ruler, Israel was much better off if God was leading and that's why he said in Psalm 40:8 "I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart." Jesus taught us this and told us that when we are to pray, we are to start off with Matthew 6:10 and say, "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

It may not always seem like it, but God knows what He's doing and He has a wonderful plan to give you prosperity, hope and a future. We may have great plans, but they will never be as close to how awesome and wonderful God's plans are for us. All He asks is that we learn to trust in Him more and more.
