Windows 10 vs. iOS 9: Taking the next leap in mobile applications

Windows and Apple are not just battling it out in the device arena but also in the world of operating systems. This is an expected flashpoint because the applications of these operating systems are wider and more inclusive, as these will be powering every device under each brand's lineups. So which is the better OS?

There are features in both OSs that are almost on the same page, such as in the case of a smarter personal assistant. iOS 9 can now support a smarter Siri, thanks to Siri being designed to be more proactive to the needs of the user. It can now add reminders via a voice command. If users say "remind me about it later," Siri will search through the open app and understand what the user is referring to.

Windows 10, on the other hand, has Cortana which can now be fed with new information about the user so that it can better provide a more intelligent service. It can also perform specific tasks. Users can now ask to view specific albums with a simple voice prompt.

iOS 9 [Apple]

Techradar reported that iOS 9 will now be able to take care of productivity tasks better. There are now multiple ways to use multitasking features on any device with the iOS 9. Users can go for the split screen or the slide-over which allows them to bring up a second app in the screen so that typing a text can be easy while reading a page in Safari. Picture-in-picture can also be used, where videos or FaceTime calls can be moved to the side of the screen and other apps can run behind the video.

Windows 10, on the other hand, has Continuum. PC Advisor reported that with Continuum turned on, Windows 10 can provide a seamless function as a tab or a PC by detecting if the keyboard is discarded and the user is choosing to go for touch motions on the screen. This easy transformation allows for more productivity for the user.

These two operating systems are designed to serve the needs of the devices of their respective developers best. For iOS 9, it is more into enhancing the mobile experience. Meanwhile, Windows 10 is more about integration and easier use of the OS across different platforms (tab/ PC).
