The 2014 Winter Olympic Games kick off today in Sochi, Russia.

Among the most popular sports in the Winter Olympics is inevitably the ice dance and women's figure-skating event.

This year, America focuses on Gracie Gold, who wowed the crowd at the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Jan. 11, 2014.

The 18-year-old won her first national championship with her perfect short program at the nation competition this month.

The 15-member U.S. Olympic Figure Skating team was announced after approval by the United States Olympic Committee. "I'm so excited to be going to Sochi representing the United States," she said. "The Olympics aren't just another competition, it's the ultimate dream. It's a life experience that I'll never forget and I'm so excited to be going."

Ashley Wagner, who placed fourth in this year's national Figure Skating Championship, is the veteran skater among the three ladies representing the U.S. for the singles. She was the national champion in both 2013 and 2012.

Wagner expressed her excitement at representing the U.S. at the Olympics. "I'm at a loss for words right now. It's been a really rough four years and I've been working really hard... I'm happy that my federation was able to see beyond one bad skate and I can't believe that I'm going to be able to represent the United States in Sochi. We have an incredible team, and I'm so proud of what we've all been able to accomplish so far. I'm on cloud nine. Everyone has been so supportive over the last couple of days and I'm very grateful to be where I am right now."
