WWE news 2015: Nikki Bella unofficially breaks AJ Lee's record

For a moment, it seemed that Charlotte had catapulted herself to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) stardom when she defeated Nikki Bella at WWE RAW to become the new WWE Divas champion. But more than that, the win would have put an end to Nikki's other mission — that of which was to break AJ Lee's standing record for longest reigning diva in the division.

That was before perennial heel and WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon entered the fray and ordered the decision to be reversed since Charlotte technically pinned Brie Bella and not Nikki.

With that development, Nikki remains as champ but more importantly surpasses AJ Lee as the longest reigning WWE Divas champion.

The controversy has brought attention once again to the WWE Divas division, something that has been going on for quite some time now.

Charlotte, an obvious fan favorite and former NXT Champion, has long been rumored to be the next Divas champion. While that nullified triumph will not be the crowing piece of her run, she will get another chance when the two face off once again at WWE Night of Champions in Houston this coming Sept. 20.

Could Charlotte finally become champion since Nikki has been able to break Lee's streak, which seems to be the whole focus of the WWE from the beginning?

Nikki isn't exactly the favorite right now and like perhaps Seth Rollins, the WWE has done a great job drawing in critics and haters for her. But come WWE Night of Champions, all that could change for both WWE pets and hopefully, the rightful champions will be put in place.

Then again, remember that this sort of scenario is what makes the WWE more of an entertainment wagon than a competitive niche. Storylines have to be followed and performers just have to do what they are told no matter what fans think.

The good news is that come WWE Night of Champions, the title will change hands whether it be through disqualification, countout, submission, or pinfall. Things seem to have gotten pretty interesting.

Below is the segment of that match between Charlotte and Nikki Bella, in case you weren't able to see it.
