Xbox One news: game console outperforming Sony's PlayStation 4 sales

Microsoft has a lot of reasons to celebrate, and the biggest achievement it has this year is outselling its toughest competitor, Sony. Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One was dubbed the best-selling console in the month of October in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

According to GameSpot, this is the fourth month in a row that Xbox One maintained its lead against other consoles in the US, while it is the second consecutive month in Australia and the UK. A lot of factors are attributed to Microsoft's success in the gaming arena this year.

One reason, GameSpot adds, is the development of latest hardware among competitors. PlayStation has launched a variety of products, with the PS4 Slim in September and the PlayStation Virtual Reality in October. On top of that, the announcement of the enhanced PlayStation Pro may have had a hand in Sony's PS4 revenue depression, giving Xbox One the advantage.

Microsoft launched a new console, the Xbox One S, in August. Moreover, Microsoft didn't send out a barrage of new devices, unlike what Sony has done, thus players are able to look at one product at a time without risking division of consumer dollars.

Another feature the Xbox One has that the PlayStation 4 doesn't is its backward compatibility, allowing owners of Xbox One to play games from the previous generation console Xbox 360. Some of the games that are covered by such compatibility are "Mass Effect 2" and "Mass Effect 3," "Skate 3," "OFP: Red River," "Guardian Heroes," and "Scarygirl."

As seen in Xbox One's official website, Microsoft has upped the ante in time for the holidays with a variety of choices for their bundles. Some of which includes bundles with "Gears of War," Rainbow Six Siege," "Tom Clancy's The Division," and "Forza Motorsport 6," among others. This could have added to the appeal of Microsoft's console over Sony's PS4.
