Xbox One release date: Availability at launch date with Midnight Madness at BestBuy, Gamestop, Walmart and Microsoft stores

Microsoft's next-generation Xbox One console will launch this week.

Microsoft will be hosting launch events in New York City and Los Angeles on the evening of Nov. 21, 2013. Midnight Madness events will be held in participating Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart and Microsoft Stores.

In New York City, the event will be held at the Best Buy theater on 1515 Broadway. the first 1,000 people to purchase an Xbox One entertainment system or an Xbox One game can enjoy an exclusive concert with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The purchase of Xbox One entertainment systems and Xbox One games begins at 8 am at the Best Buy Theater. The doors will be opening at 9 pm.

In Los Angeles, the event will be held at Milk Studios in Cahuenga Blvd. The first 500 people to purchase an Xbox One entertainment system or an Xbox One game can enjoy an exclusive concert with deadmau5 and 7Wallace. The purchase of Xbox One entertainment systems and Xbox One games begins at 10 am at Milk Studios with doors opening at 6pm local time.

Prior to the U.S. release of the highly anticipated Xbox One on Nov. 22, Microsoft has uploaded three videos on YouTube for the 'Xbox One Day One Countdown' series promoting a live launch for the new console scheduled for Nov. 21 11pm ET.

The live launch can be watched live on Spike TV, Xbox.com and Xbox Live.

The first promo titled 'Ryse: Son of Rome' shows a man shining the shoes of a Roman solder.

The second promo, 'Forza Motorsport 5' shows a man calling for a taxi, before climbing into a yellow sports car with 'Xbox One' written on the license plate.

The third promo, titled 'Dead Rising 3' shows two zombies in front of a subway looking at a map upside down. A woman walks over and turns the map in the right direction.

For gaming fans that have not previously pre-ordered the Xbox One, the stock will be scarce on launch day. The demand for the console was so high that retailers such as Gamestop, Amazon, BestBuy and Walmart have stopped accepting pre-orders and there is no solid news on when the new inventory will be available.

UPDATE: Amazon promoted another special Xbox One Day One Pre-Order early morning at 8 a.m. on Nov. 20. However, that allotment of pre-orders for guaranteed delivery on Nov. 22 also seems to be sold out.

Gamestop spokesman Jackie Smith told NBC News: "Reservations are currently closed for both the PS4 and the Xbox One and demand is high. In fact, our 'first to know' mailing lists for next-generation consoles have more than 2.2 million subscribers!"

BestBuy will be opening its doors at midnight for gamers who want to collect their pre-ordered console from the stores. The retailer stated: "The processing of pre-orders will begin up to 2 hours before midnight and will begin with the front of the line and continue in the order that people arrived. While your pre-order may be processed before midnight, no consoles will be given to customers until after 12:01 a.m."
