It is already confirmed that Xiaomi will hold a press event on Sept. 27, ostensibly for the Mi 5s iteration. Speculations suggest that the China-based tech maker will launch two flagships on the event, the other one being the Mi Note 2.

According to PlayfulDroid, Xiaomi has already officially pegged the launch date of the Mi 5s on Sept. 27. The China-based tech maker has already rolled out press invites for a company-sponsored event. While the teaser has not specified what release the event will be about, the massive "S" on the image already hints at the Mi 5s being the flagship. Although Xiaomi has yet to confirm the Mi 5s as the event focus, supposed leaks on its specs and features have already made their way online, leading to speculations of its imminent release. Xiaomi itself has teased the device on benchmark website AnTuTu.

Meanwhile, although it is fairly certain that the Mi 5s will appear at the press event, there are speculations that Xiaomi may be planning to announce two flagships at the event. Previously, it is said that another Xiaomi flagship, the Mi Note 2, will be announced on Sept. 24. However, industry followers surmise that it is highly unlikely for the tech maker to announce separate flagships just days of each other. It is highly possible that since the press invites are out, Xiaomi will be announcing the Mi 5s together with the Mi Note 2.

Should this happen, then Xiaomi will have two top-tier releases that make it as late 2016 releases. While the specs for both iterations are unconfirmed, leaks suggest that the Mi 5s will feature the new, step-up Snapdragon 821 processor, as well as 6 GB of RAM. The Mi Note 2, on the other hand, is also expected to carry the SD 821 chipset, but its top-tier version will feature a massive 8-GB RAM.
