Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 release date rumors: New images leaked, could run on Windows 10 OS

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Inc. recently unveiled its Redmi Note 2 along with the Redmi Note 2 Prime variant in China with an affordable US$125 price tag. Now, it looks like Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its upcoming Mi Pad 2 tablet as the new successor to the Mi Pad device, following recent leaked images from China.

 GSM Arena

The original Mi Pad was unveiled last year in March, followed by its release three months later in June.

According to WCCF Tech, the new images suggest that the Mi Pad 2 tablet could sport a display scree than is larger than its predecessor's. The older Mi Pad sports a 7.9-inch display screen with a 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution.

In addition, the report by WCCF Tech adds that the Mi Pad 2 could run on the Windows 10 operating system (OS) instead of Android.

However, since Xiaomi has already introduced its latest MIUI 7.0 OS along with the launch of the Redmi Note 2 handset, there is a possibility that the new table would come with the Android OS and MIUI 7.0 on top pre-installed.

In terms of the design, images of the Mi Pad 2 tablet had also surfaced back in March of this year. Those images provided a glimpse of what the upcoming tablet might look like. According to an earlier report by GSM Arena, the Mi Pad 2 could look almost similar to Xiaomi's Mi Note flagship device, but, of course, with a much larger display screen.

The report adds that the tablet could sport a glass material on its back along with slightly rounded front panel. Unfortunately, there are still not many details available in regards to the tablet's other specifications and features as of this time.

Also, the tablet could come with different versions that will support third generation (3G) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity as well.
