YouTube death threat for Christian opponent of London Mega-Mosque

A harrowing video showing a mock obituary of a prominent Christian campaigner against the erection of an east London 'mega-mosque' has appeared on YouTube.

|PIC1|Christian Peoples Alliance councillor Alan Craig is shown in the shocking video along with his wife and two daughters, aged just 5 and 6.

The video entitled 'In memory of Councillor Alan Craig', has apparently been posted on the YoutTube website in reaction to his very public campaign against a proposed 12,000 capacity mosque in the 2012 Olympic village.

Despite the death threat Craig has vowed to continue his fight against the development.

Earlier this year it was revealed by Craig that the proposed mosque was being sponsored by an ultra-conservative Islamic sect, Tablighi Jamaat.

Already England's capital city contains more mosques than any other in the Western world, but the new mosque would dwarf many of England's Christian cathedrals. However, it is not the size of the proposals that is the main concern, Craig has said, but rather the group behind the proposed establishment.

Stating the reason why he is fighting the development of the super-mosque, Craig has said: "I'm not anti-Muslim. I'm a democrat. I believe Muslims have the right to build mosques. But there's a difference between your average mosque down the road...and this monster mosque, this mega-mosque that they want to build."

The FBI and MI5 have expressed suspicions that Tablighi Jamaat has ties to al-Qaeda.

The organisation - influenced by a branch of Saudi Arabian Islam known as Wahhabism - has already been linked to two of the July 7 suicide bombers who attended a Tablighi mosque at the organisation's headquarters in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. The jailed shoe bomber Richard Reid is also known to have attended Tablighi meetings.

|PIC2|The Times has reported that the 'Craig obituary' video creator is 23-year-old Muhammad from Stevenage, known by his online profile as Abdullah 1425. He posted the film four months ago and amazingly until Tuesday it was even promoted on the mosque's website via a link to material supporting the project.

The video concludes by saying: "The mosque will be built in time for the 2012 Olympic Games. We must ask Allah to strengthen us."

Councillor Craig contacted the police after he saw the film said, "It seems that there is no doubt that this is a death threat."

However, he has said he would not be intimidated by the video.

Councillor Craig has explained that he contacted the police by letter on Monday last week and has said he hoped the police would contact YouTube to take the video down.

The Metropolitan Police has told The Times: "Officers will review the video in due course to ascertain whether any criminal offence has been committed."

Abbey Mills Mosque has denied any association with the video's creator, but has admitted that there had been a link to the YouTube profile on their website.

Nick Kilby, spokesman for the mosque said: "We found out about the video last night and it has been removed. We don't take responsibility for other people's sites that we don't control."

He added that if the video's creator was discovered to be a member of Tablighi Jamaat the matter would be dealt with "very seriously".
