The anime television series that captured the hearts of fans all over the world is finally back for a second season this fall. "Yuki Yuna is a Hero: Washio Sumi Chapter" premiered Oct. 6 as a prequel to "Yuki Yuna is a Hero," which first aired back in October 2014.

This six-part chapter is set two years before the events of the original series, although in a similar setting. It features an all-new set of Heroes — Sumi Washio, Sonoko Nogi and Gin Minowa — tasked to fight the mysterious destructive enemies called Vertexes.

The much-awaited first episode of the series showed Sumi Washio being chosen to lead her two classmates in saving the world.

The second episode titled "Friends" showed the three gearing up and training for future battles. With the sudden heavy burden put on their shoulders, the three had to learn teamwork fast, but a rivalry for leadership distracted the team from their main goal and resulted in some teenage girl drama.

Find out what happens to the three girls on the third episode of "Washio Sumi is a Hero," which will air on Oct. 20 at 1:55 a.m. JST on Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) and Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).

Before the TV series was officially launched this October, it was first shown in Japan as a three-part film series titled "Friends," "Soul," and "Promise" between March and July this year.

The series is based on the light novel "Washio Sumi is a Hero" written by Takahiro and illustrated by BUNBUN. It was published by Dengeki G's Magazine in 2014.

"Washio Sumi is a Hero" will be followed by the six-part "Yuki Yuna is a Hero: Hero Chapter," which will continue the story of Yuki and her fellow heroes from the first series. Its release date has yet to be announced.
