Chinese tech company DJI has cemented itself as the leading brand for flying cameras with the new Zenmuse X7.

Their new release is a Super 35-format aerial camera that is built to work impeccably with their Inspire 2 drone. The Zenmuse X7 sports several upgrades that will make capturing moving images just like shooting a film.

The Zenmuse X7 has a large 23.5 x 12.5 mm Super 35 sensor. It also has the DJI Cinema Color System (DCCS) that was industrialized with Technicolor to provide better color to the Zenmuse X7's output.

Aside from the 14-stop dynamic range of the Super 35 sensor, the DCCS has a new D-Log Curve and D-Gamut RGB color space that provides improved dynamic range, thus preserving more color information and giving greater color grading flexibility.

The X7's sensor is touted to have the highest resolution for a camera embedded in a drone. It offers 6K resolution and records at 30 frames per second (fps). The X7 also shoots 24-megapixel Digital Negative (DNG) stills that use the bigger side of the sensor.

Also, the X7 has interchangeable carbon fiber lenses at 16 mm, 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm focal lengths, each with f/2.8 maximum apertures. The 16-mm lens has a built-in ND 4 filter while the other lenses have mechanical shutters. With the 16-mm lens, the X7 system is lightweight at 631 grams, giving the Inspire 2 drone around 23 minutes of flying time.

DJI will be being shipping the Zenmuse X7 worldwide next month. The Super 35 drone camera will retail for $2,699. The lenses will be sold for $1,299 each except for the 50-mm lens which will be priced at $1,199. There will also be a prime lens kit that will sell for $4,299. Moreover, DJI will have a Care Refresh package that will be available for the Inspire 2 as well.
