2016 Nissan Sentra specs: New model debuts

Japanese carmaker Nissan has debuted the newest addition to its lineup, the 2016 edition of the Nissan Sentra. First officially seen at this year's LA Auto Show, the new Sentra is the latest Nissan iteration to receive a mid-cycle refresh and update.

At first glance, much of the update for the 2016 edition of Sentra had Nissan updating its iterations to closely match one another. The new Sentra is the third in line to be refreshed, along with the Altima and Maxima models. From the grilled front bumper and rear fender, as well as the streamlined hood and body, the three now sport exterior updates that closely match another Nissan premium model, the Murano.

Meanwhile, according to Auto Guide, although the 2016 edition is a mid-cycle refresh, Nissan also chose to revamp the inner workings of the new Sentra. The 2016 edition's chassis are now stiffer than the previous iteration, making driving with the new installed dampers and springs much more stable. Across rougher than usual roads, the stiffer chassis bracing also braces the car and the passengers against sudden impact.

Under its newly designed hood, the 2016 Sentra comes with a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine. Coming in as a six-speed manual transmission or CVT, the 2016 model comes in S 6MT, S Xtronic, FE+ S, SV, SR and SL editions, each with its own add-on packages like intelligent cruise control, navigation package, and forward emergency braking.

Speaking to Autoblog, Nissan spokesperson Dan Passe said that the 2016 edition of the new Nissan Sentra will start with a base model S for around $17,605, a little higher than the base model for the 2015 edition. In addition, price tag for the other models with different trims and packages will also be different. However, added the blogsite, Nissan said that the highest price tag for an SV model with a complete package will not cost more than $20,000.
