Amir Khan next fight: Kell Brook promoter upbeat on chances of mega bout

Come May, it will mark one-year that Amir Khan has been out of boxing action, although he is certainly not running low on possible opponents.

Two names are up in the air as his possible opponent — Danny Garcia and Kell Brook. Either way, he gets the chance to add another title to his waist. Garcia is the newly crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) junior welterweight champion, while Kell Brook holds the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion.

Of the two, he is the mandatory challenger to Garcia, but a bigger purse is seen if he agrees to face Brook. So the easy answer to that is to agree to fight his countryman, but it seems Khan is not totally sold with the idea since he (still) feels he can get something bigger than fighting Brook.

If a fight between Brook and Khan materializes, the likely date would be June. This is the date which Brook promoter Eddie Hearn is leaning on but only if Khan signs on the dotted line.

But before that, Brook needs to take care of business. He is scheduled to face Kevin Bizier this month when he defends his IBF title. If both agree to face each other, the timing would be perfect.

On the other end, Khan can opt to fight Garcia first to somehow get himself in shape. After being out of the ring this long, it could be a best option for him to face Garcia and then Brook next.

With WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman not allowing Garcia to make a voluntary title defense, according to Boxingscene.com, this could likely hint that Khan will be facing Garcia soon. That can only change if Khan opts to go in a different direction which could be to agree to fight Brook.

As it stands now, it is all at the hands of Khan. He is in the hot seat right now, a place which he has always wanted to be in. So like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao before, it is his time to make up his mind on what to do next.
