The 5.1 version of Android Lollipop will reportedly roll out to Nexus devices in March, including Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10. According to reports, Google will release the next major operating system update next month to finally fix some of the persistent bugs and issues still present in the Android OS. The tech company has not officially confirmed its plans for the operating system yet, but an unlikely source dropped the ball about the release of the update.

HTC's Vice President for Production Management Mo Versi implied that the major OS update will come soon.

"It'll be tied to Google's next MR, which is in March," reads the tweet.

MR means Maintenance Release or an update without additional content and new features. An MR update only includes fixes to minor problems, bugs, as well as security issues. HTC is one of Google's partners that uses the Android operating system and that delivers the OS updates earlier than most OEMs.

According to rumors, the Android 5.1 OS will improve RAM management, welcome silent mode, and OK Google. In addition, the new version of the operating system will have security updates that will enable users to have PIN lock, pattern lock, or a general lock toggle. Quick Settings enables users to access some features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Some bug fixes are also included in the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update. GottaBeMobile listed some of the bug fixes that users should expect, including:

  • Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
  • General improvements in system stability
  • Improved RAM management
  • Fixes for sudden app closures
  • Improved battery management
  • Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
  • Issues with wireless connections fixed
  • Problems with OK Google function solved
  • Notifications problems solved
  • Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
  • Other improvements and changes

Google previously tried to fix the errors in Android 5.0 Lollipop by rolling out 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 versions, but these versions are not free from bugs either. Thus, the urgent need for the Android 5.1 OS.
