Android fans eagerly awaiting the release of the new operating system (OS) update may not have to wait that much longer, as the Marshmallow update is expected to arrive by Sept. 29.

Google will reportedly not be releasing the new update on its own, and instead, the company is expected to launch it alongside their newest mobile device offerings.

According to Android Authority, both LG's Nexus 5X and Huawei's Nexus 6 will both be released by Sept. 29. Although not officially confirmed, it is widely believed that the two new Nexus units will be the first ones featuring the Marshmallow update.

The supposed release date would fall in line with Google's recent track record in terms of launching their latest OS updates.

In the past, Google had the habit of releasing two major software updates over the course of a year, according to Neurogadget; but they have since veered away from the practice. It seems that now, Google is more comfortable announcing the impending arrival of a new OS update around the summer before releasing it along with their Nexus offerings later in the fall. Google would be following that very pattern if the Android Marshmallow does indeed come out on Sept. 29 together with the two new Nexus phones.

In addition to the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6, Google is also expected to make the Marshmallow update for some existing devices. In this case, the existing devices which would be receiving the new update would include LG's Nexus 5, Motorola's version of the Nexus 6 and also HTC's Nexus 9, according to the International Business Times India.

The Android Marshmallow OS will be providing a bevy of new features upon its arrival. One such feature is the Quick Settings tiles, which will allow users to designate the microSD card as the default place for storage. The new OS will also come with a boatload of performance upgrades.
