"Attack on Titan" season 2 will premiere later this year, according to the latest release date reports about the anime.

Last year, during the premiere of "Attack on Titan Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow," director Tetsuro Araki, together with voice actors from the series, promised that Levi and the crew will be back this year. He provided no specific timeframe to look forward to, though.

Despite that, reports started coming in about "Attack on Titan" season 2 seeing the light of day last February, which did not come true because the anime was postponed. This is reportedly due to the lack of material that the new season can adapt.

"Attack on Titan" is based on a manga of the same name created by Hajime Isayama. The new season of the anime needs at least four arcs to get things going and to cover an entire season.

Since the show is still awaiting new arcs of the manga to arrive, fans will be waiting longer before they can watch "Attack on Titan" season 2.

There have been spinoffs, games and movies made after the manga to help fans wait for the premiere of the second season, but the lack of updates about the show remains a big deal.

Story-wise, rumor has it that "Attack on Titan" season 2 will delve into the human-to-Titan mythology, which means that fans will get to know folks who can transform into giant flesh eaters.

The new season is also expected to blur the line between Titans and humans. In a nutshell, the new season of "Attack on Titan" will be pretty big and revealing.

As for its release date, the new season is expected to make a splash during the second half of 2016 – July at the earliest.
