'Battleborn' final update released, comes with premium 'Borderlands' skins

"Battleborn" gets its life support pulled as developers work on another project. Gearbox Software

Hero first-person shooter game "Battleborn" has said its final goodbyes with a fall update.

Developer Gearbox Software's last gift to players comes with new "Borderlands" skins, along with taunts, titles, finishers, maps, some bug fixes and an update to the Skill Damage growth formulas.

Gearbox explained that this update aims to preserve strength relationships as the player levels up in the game, saying, "Prior to these changes, low damage skills became relatively more powerful as players leveled up when compared to high damage skills and attacks."

The complete patch notes can be found on the Gearbox website.

Gearbox earlier announced that development of the game will be halted after this fall update. "Battleborn" was positively accepted when it was released in May 2016. However, with its confusing messaging and the strong competition with other shooter games like "Overwatch," it was not given the chance to really shine.

The game was able to maintain a small but loyal player base in its short run. But sadly, its numbers failed to grow.

"As of this week, there will be no more Battleplans and there is currently no planned content after the Fall Update. Details of any future changes or news will be made on our forums or through social media, so keep your radars on," said "Battleborn" creative director Randy Varnell on the Gearbox Forums back in September.

He, however, noted that the servers will still be active for the foreseeable future, although even that seems to be in the horizon. As PCGamer noted, the game's average concurrent player count the past month is just 54.5.

As Gearbox says goodbye to "Battleborn," Varnell announced that the company is working on a highly-anticipated game, which should be released soon. Fans are almost certain that this new project is the third installment for role-playing shooter game "Borderlands."
