Battlefield 1 Electronic Arts/Battlefield

"Battlefield" fans can look forward to its 14th installment of the franchise to be released on Oct. 21. This was officially announced by Electronic Arts, its developer and publisher.

EA held its Q4 2016 earnings call last May 10, where it announced the wordwide release date of its upcoming Word War I first-person shooter video game.

"With Battlefield 1, we've set out to deliver the biggest and most innovative Battlefield game ever, with a deep story and unprecedented variety in the gameplay powered by our Frostbite engine. Battlefield 1 is set to launch worldwide on Oct. 21," as stated in the transcript of the earnings call shared by Seeking Alpha.

The game's trailer debuted last May 6 and gained almost 2 million views in a 24-hour period. To date, the trailer has been watched almost 30 million times.

"Fight your way through epic battles going from tight urban combat in a besieged French city to big open spaces in the Italian Alps or frantic combats in the Arabic sand dunes. Experience large-scale battles as infantry or piloting vehicles on land, air and sea, from the tanks and bikes on the ground, to bi-planes and gigantic battleships," the publisher and developer said on the game's official website.

The campaign mode for the upcoming game will contain larger maps and will be a more open world compared to its previous games. Fans will have several characters to choose from and will have more options and decisions to make in order to succeed in every mission.

Fans can also join the multiplayer mode, where up to 64 players can participate in immersive battles set in the old world and inspired by historical events. A new squad system will be in place when the game goes online and will allow group entering and exiting on its servers. Players who are planning to go solo will surely encounter a more difficult gameplay. Multiplayer maps will include Arabia, the Western Front and the Alps.

First gameplay footage will be revealed on June 12, during the company's EA Play in Los Angeles and London.

"Battlefield 1" will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
