'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' news: Return of Nuketown? surprise at E3

Treyarch is arranging a surprise for fans at the highly-anticipated Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015 scheduled to take place in a few weeks. The game studio will be presenting "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3," the latest iteration of the hit first-person shooter lineup and will showcase the gameplay mechanics of the game.

But Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar said there is something more. If his recent tweets are to go by, then gamers will be in for another treat. In one of his posts on Twitter, he shared an image of a monkey wearing some sort of equipment on its back, which he said is a throwback photo.

In the following tweet, he expressed his excitement for the E3 brought about by the "surprise." His post from the day before may have hinted what that surprise is. A fan tweeted Vonderhaar a photo of Nuketown, the all-time favorite multiplayer map native to the "Black Ops" series. The fan captioned the photo, "Gone but not forgotten," to which Vonderhaar replied, "Says who." This simple teaser was enough to have gamers believe that what is thought by many as the best multiplayer map in existence will be included in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3."

This is not a far-fetched notion, though. Treyarch is fond of reusing maps players come to love. Nuketown, for one, was a "Black Ops" original that became such a huge hit that the developer included it in "Black Ops 2." Its inclusion in the upcoming game will prove Nuketown is still well-loved.

It is believed that the return of Nuketown will be laid down during the E3 event, where the title is one of the biggest and most-awaited. Game Rant says that should Nuketown be in the installment, it will be as a pre-order bonus or a DLC exclusive.

The E3 2015 trade show will take place from June 16 to 18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" will be released on Nov. 6.
