'Dark Souls 3' DLC release date rumors: fans may get DLC earlier than thought

"Dark Souls 3" DLC might be here by August instead of fall 2016. Bandai Namco

"Dark Souls 3" developer From Software is expected to announce a new DLC for the newly released action role-playing video game during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016.

The developer's parent company Kadokawa Games has a scheduled presentation in the event, although the company is there to talk about its new releases as well as some existing ones not including "Dark Souls 3."

There are speculations, however, that the "Dark Souls 3" DLC will be released in August, although it was confirmed for a fall release (September being the earliest). The game is expected to get a trilogy of DLCs, which will serve as the franchise's conclusion.

"We will make three large DLCs as planned. First one will be out in fall 2016, second one in early 2017, [and] the third one doesn't have a date yet," "Dark Souls 3" director Hidetaka Miyazaki told GNN Gamer (via NeoGAF).

Back in February, the season pass for "Dark Souls 3" was leaked. This bundle included only two DLCs for $25. The description teased that there will be new maps, bosses and enemies as well as weapons and armor sets.

Miyazaki has already said that "Dark Souls 3" will be the final installment in its popular series. He said in the same GNN Gamer interview that "there's absolutely no plan right now" for any sequels or spinoffs.

"But I can't say for certain the possibility is 0% ... What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over. So rather than make another sequel, I think it's time we take a step to a new direction," he added.

Miyazaki also revealed that an entirely new IP is now in the works, but did not go into detail about it.

Hopefully, fans will learn specific details about the launch date of the first "Dark Souls 3" DLC during the E3. For now, fans will simply have to enjoy the main game.
