"Destiny 2" has finally become the focus of majority of the folks over at Bungie. This was revealed by Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg in the company's latest earnings call.

Bungie set out to release the sequel to the hit first-person shooter video game next year, and it looks like they are on course in keeping that promise.

"The majority of the team at Bungie is actually focused entirely on creating 'Destiny 2,' which is still on track for release next year and it's going to be awesome," Hirshberg stated.

"Destiny 2" was first announced back in February on Bungie's website. The developer did not offer more details about the sequel except that it will see the light of day.

The focus of the developer in the recent months was mainly on the final downloadable content for "Destiny," which is called Rise of Iron.

During the earnings call, Hirshberg revealed that the interest and anticipation for the upcoming DLC continues to shoot up as its much-awaited launch gets closer.

"The continued hunger for great new content from this passionate community bodes well for the September launch of Rise of Iron," the Activision CEO said.

"Digital pre-purchases so far are very strong and tracking ahead of last year's Taken King," he went on to say, adding that "Destiny" itself is raking in more players.

Hirshberg reported on the "month on month growth" of the game in terms of monthly active users, which should also help them gauge the interest on "Destiny 2."

Activision promised to provide updates on the development of the "Destiny" sequel. A specific release date has not been designated yet.

It is unknown if the timing of the release of the first game – September 2014 – will have something to do with how Bungie chooses to release "Destiny 2."

As for Rise of Iron, fans can get feast on the expansion pack on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
