'Elder Scrolls 6' release rumors: Is Bethesda really planning to make 'Skyrim 2'?

Will "The Elder Scrolls 6" truly feature Skyrim as its main setting yet again?

That's one of the biggest questions currently surrounding the still unconfirmed game, and the rumor mill has certainly suggested that it is more than a mere possibility.

It's hard to say exactly why the rumors about "Skyrim 2" became more prevalent than others, although it likely has at least something to do with the comments made last year by Bethesda Softworks vice president of public relations and marketing Pete Hines.

In an interview with the Telegraph UK, Hines commented on the amount of time that Bethesda usually gets to develop their titles.

"The reason they say that is because generally speaking that's what you'd be getting with another publisher in charge. They'd be spitting out a 'Skyrim 2' the year after or two years later. That's just now how we view it," said Hines.

A lot of fans who got wind of the interview immediately focused on Hines referring to the upcoming "Elder Scrolls" game as "Skyrim 2."

It's unclear if Hines was even aware that he referred to "Elder Scrolls 6" as "Skyrim 2." Hines may have just been mindlessly referring to the next "Elder Scrolls" game and in doing so also referenced the most recent iteration of the franchise.

Still, some fans have taken the comment as some kind of confirmation that "Elder Scrolls 6" will indeed take players back to the home of the Nords.

Other rumors also suggest different settings for the next "Elder Scrolls" game, with Argonia and Hammerfell being mentioned as possibilities as well.

The only thing certain for now is that more clarity regarding "The Elder Scrolls 6's" actual setting will not be known until Bethesda announces it.

The good news is that more details about the next "Elder Scrolls" game could be coming out soon.

Recently, Bethesda took to Twitter to announce that they will be holding another Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) press conference this year.

Bethesda's E3 press conference will take place in Los Angeles, California on June 12, and the studio may very well use that time to announce more news about their upcoming projects, with "The Elder Scrolls 6" possibly being on the itinerary as well.
