'Good Wife' season 7 spoilers: Peter runs president; Alicia starts her own law firm

A presidential election is set in the upcoming season of "The Good Wife." CBS

A presidential election is due to happen when CBS' "Good Wife" returns with its seventh season.

Peter (Chris Noth) would reportedly launch his bid for the Democratic ticket against Hillary Clinton in the legal and political drama series. Executive producer Robert King confirmed the news with TV Line, saying the show would be imitating real-life politics for the new installment. For instance, the Iowa Caucus set for Feb. 1 would also happen in the show.

"We're trying to parallel what's happening on our show with what's happening in reality," King said.

The executive producer also discussed about the challenges that this strategy would bring to the show, as they started writing the scripts in June and they had to guess "where things are going." He also said that since politics was a fickle subject, which could change overnight, they would have to use their ability to "ADR some lines" if needed. King said, however, that they still have the right to veer off from reality at some point.

Meanwhile, Peter's estranged wife Alicia (Julianna Margulies) would be seen trying to get her life back on track after the fiasco during the attorney election. Based on the official synopsis released by CBS, she would attempt to restart her career once again by starting her own law firm. According to the International Business Times, Alicia would be getting help from the new investigator in town, Jason Crouse (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The website posited that the two would be spending a lot of time together establishing her law firm that love may start to develop between them. Alicia has been burnt the last season. Her "connection" with Finn Polmar (Matthew Goode) was cut off abruptly when the latter reunited with his wife.

Aside from Crouse, another new character to watch out for is lawyer Irving Carter (Peter Gallagher). According to Vine Report, Carter would be working under billionaire Reese Dipple (Oliver Platt). Reports claimed that Alicia should be wary of him, as he was described as someone "who works his way through cases by using civilized debates.

"The Good Wife" season 7 will premiere on Oct. 4 on CBS.
