Nexus 10 2 discontinued by Google? 2nd generation slate may be replaced by ASUS-made 8inch tablet

Rumors of a Nexus 10 2 tablet have come and gone and there is still no sign of another ten-inch Nexus tablet in sight.

After numerous dudd release date rumors, it is now believed that Google may be discontinuing the 10 inch slate for the popular Nexus line.

Stock for the first-generation Nexus 10 appeared to be out of stock a few weeks ago on Google's Play Store. However, the stock was soon refreshed and was available for sale again, banishing rumors that a release date for the Nexus 10 2 is near.

The first-generation Nexus 10 slate was manufactured by Samsung. It was rumored that the Nexus 10 2 would be produced by LG, the Korean company behind the popular Nexus 5 smartphone, which ranks high among the top smartphones of 2013.

In latest Nexus news, CNET recently reported that Taiwan-based HTC has signed a deal with Google, leading to rumors that a possible HTC/Google tablet is in the works. Could this be the Nexus 10 2 which Google has mysteriously kept silent about? Or would the Google and HTC collab produce a smaller, more compact tablet such as the third-generation Nexus 7?

Another device that is currently in talks is an 8-inch Nexus tablet. This could be the replacement for the Nexus 10 tablet, and rumor has it that it would be manufactured by ASUS. The first and second generation Nexus 7 tablets were manufactured by ASUS, so it is likely that the company will continue with the successful collaboration and produce the third-generation slate.
