Gospel legend Andraé Crouch hospitalized: Sister releases statement on latest condition

Andraé Crouch

Gospel legend Andraé Crouch remains in the hospital following a health complication over the weekend, his twin sister confirmed in a statement released Monday.

Crouch was hospitalized on January 3, and his current health condition is unknown.

Breathecast reported that the 72-year-old singer suffered a major heart attack and was on life support, although Crouch's sister, Sandra, would not comment on the nature of his condition.

"On Saturday, January 3rd, my brother, Andraé Crouch, was taken to the hospital so that medical staff could more directly address some serious health complications that had arisen," Sandra wrote.

"At this time, Andraé is being attended to by a medical team, and we are so grateful for their wonderful care. We are also so grateful for the many thousands of people around the world who are praying for Andraé right now.

"We ask for your continued prayer – that Andraé will respond positively to the medical attention being given to him at this time, and that he will fully recover from this current health complication."

A health condition was also reported last month, when the "Let the Church Say Amen" tour was postponed to March 2015 because of Crouch's health. The tour, which was originally scheduled to take place during the holiday season, also features CeCe Winans, Rance Allen, and other gospel greats.

No details were given regarding the nature of Crouch's illness.

In October 2013, the multi-Grammy Award-winner fell in his home and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He told TMZ that he suffers from diabetes, and attributed the disease to his health scare.

The singer is a living legend in the gospel community, and was instrumental in the careers of Tramaine Hawkins, The Winans, and other popular gospel entertainers. Crouch serves as pastor of Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ and Pacoima, California alongside his sister, Sandra.
