"Grey's Anatomy" opens its 13th season with April (Sarah Drew) giving birth to her baby with Jackson (Jesse Williams). Could this lead to a reconciliation between the estranged lovers?

According to Drew's interview with TVLine, she explained that the birth of their daughter will be a powerful moment for the couple that will bring forth tenderness into their relationship. Still, their status remains complicated.

"Her life-threatening situation brought some tenderness between the two of them. But they're still not together. They're figuring out how they're going to do this co-parenting thing when they're not romantically together," she said.

However, fans will be happy for the glimmer of hope that they see when the couple names their daughter. April will also have her moment against her overbearing mother-in-law when she stands up to her despite lying in a hospital bed and still weak from giving birth.

Meanwhile, the season promises to be just as powerful as the previous installments despite being on air for over 12 years.

Aside from the news that the show will focus on the remaining original cast members this season, not all news will be good.

While Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Alex (Justin Chambers) are expected to stick together in the face of issues looming before them such as possible legal repercussions of Alex beating up DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), and Meredith's impending love triangle with her sister Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Nathan (Martin Henderson), show creator Shonda Rhimes said it may still be some ways off before Meredith finally finds her happy ending, US Magazine reported.

"If Meredith Grey were 100 percent fully happy, the show would be over. So maybe when the show ends, Meredith can be fully happy maybe. But if she is, we're done. The journey would have to end for her. That would be it," she said.

On the other hand, the same may not be true for Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), as Shonda expressed excitement when it came to introducing a new love interest for her this season.

"I'm very excited to introduce a love interest for her. And to get to tell a story with her that lets her be who she is, and to see who she is post the relationships that she's had."
