House of Cards Season 2: "We are the new kids on the block," says Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey recently dished on the success of Netflix hit "House of Cards" receiving nine nods for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Spacey said, "It's pretty great, pretty great for the show. We got nine nominations, which is extraordinary because we are the new kids on the block. But also, there were all these questions swirling around: "Would we be able to break through because of the way the show is distributed?" It's a fantastic acknowledgment for MRC and Netflix and the show."

He also described his complicated character, Francis. "Francis is an incredibly complex character; and maybe, to some degree, there's always been a fascination with American politics and how it's treated in entertainment. We're a nation fascinated with politics, particularly at a time when there's such a gridlock in Washington, D.C. However diabolical ([Francis) may be, he gets stuff done. So it has to be fictional, right?"

When asked if he can give any clues about the highly anticipated season 2 of the series, the 53-year-old said, "I can't say. But I'm having an even better time shooting Season 2. I'm surrounded by an extraordinary group. We're having a ball."

Spacey himself has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series for his role as Francis Underwood in the popular Netflix drama.

This is the first time that an original online only web television on the Netflix 'network' has made such an impact on the Emmys, and Spacey predicts that this could indicate a change for future TV.

The actor told EW: "It's a very exciting time for the industry. Since we debuted, a lot of other organizations and streaming companies have announced that they're doing original content. The more shows that are produced, the more writers are hired, producers are hired, actors are hired, directors are hired, it means the more people will get employed. It's better for the economy. It's a fantastic thing."

The cast of 'House of Cards' is currently in the middle of filming season 2, and will premiere in early 2014. An official premiere date for season 2 has not been confirmed yet.

Casting rumors for the new season include Molly Parker from "Deadwood" and Sam Page, Joan's ex on "Mad [People]" have been rumored to join the cast. Other new cast members include Jimi Simpson and Kate Lyn Sheil, who is set to play a 'secret' character.
