Two Western Conference powerhouse teams will collide today, Friday, when the San Antonio Spurs host the Houston Rockets at the AT&T Center.

The Spurs have not really made any impact in the preseason, winning only one of five games played so far and in their last outing were defeated by the Phoenix Suns, 104–84.

Forward Kawhi Leonard, who was 2014 Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP), led the way for the Spurs in the recent setback, scoring 14 points, together with two rebounds and two assists.

Veteran big man Tim Duncan and David West added 10 points each to help San Antonio.

After failing to defend their 2013 championship last season, the Spurs are aiming for a good start in the 2015–16 regular season and will begin their campaign on Oct. 28 facing another Western Conference powerhouse in the Oklahoma City Thunder.

On the other hand, the Rockets stopped rising star Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans 120–100 in their last preseason game.

Houston star James Harden shone in their victory over the Pelicans, scoring 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Point guard Ty Lawson and forward Trevor Ariza also helped the Rockets, scoring 18 points each.

Center Clint Capela, who has been playing splendidly in place of the injured Dwight Howard, again had a great game for the Rockets, tallying 10 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and three blocks.

Howard will be missing the game against San Antonio to rest but will be ready to play in their season opener, according to a report by ESPN.

The Rockets' game against the Spurs will be the last in their preseason campaign this year before opening the 2015–16 regular season at home against the Denver Nuggets on Oct. 28.

The preseason meeting between the Spurs and Rockets will be held today, Oct. 23, at 8:30 p.m. EST. To watch via live stream, click here.
